FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
|
How does the secure communication works?
SECVOICE 3G uses the internet to exchange information between
the users. The voice captured by the microphone is encoded
to a digital format and then encrypted by a digital encryption
algorithm. These encrypted data is then transmitted to the
other user by the internet. Whoever intercepts the data stream
between the two users will get only scrambled data which
is incomprehensible without the encryption key.
Does encryption really protects the communication?
Yes. Strong encryption algorithms are the most powerful technology for communications protection.
What is a backdoor?
Backdoor is a hidden feature implemented by the software developer to allow access to a secure communication. Some countries only allow the development of encryption software if a “master-key” or “backdoor” is implemented and given to the government security agencies.
SECVOICE 3G does NOT have a backdoor.
Even without a backdoor, can the security of voice encryption systems be broken?
Yes. If the encryption system uses a weak algorithm for the key exchange the whole system will be vulnerable. The key exchange algorithm is as important as the encryption algorithm. The whole security is as strong as the weaker of them. Read our cryptography section to get a better understanding of this topic.
Does SECVOICE 3G switch the encryption key every second?
No, because it's not necessary. SECVOICE 3G uses the CBC encryption mode. Using the correct encryption mode is basic encryption knowledge. Even with a new encryption key every second, the wrong encryption mode will render the whole encryption process weak.
Is the encryption key discarded after the call ends?
Yes. For each call SECVOICE 3G performs a key exchange. After the call the key is discarded.
Is SECVOICE 3G communication channels superior to the GSM-CSD?
Yes. The GSM 3G / Edge / GPRS / Wi-Fi / CDMA channels offer best quality, stability and connectivity than GSM-CSD. GSM-CSD is obsolete and is already being discontinued in some locations. On the other hand, support for 3G, Edge and WI-FI is almost omnipresent.
Does SECVOICE 3G works where there is no 3G service?
Yes. SEVOICE 3G operates wherever it gets and internet connection. GSM-GPRS, GSM-EDGE, CDMA or WI-FI networks will do. SEVOICE 3G can even inter-operate with any of these technologies.
If I have only one equipment, can I make secure calls?
No. A voice encryption systems requires two equipments to encrypt/decrypt voice.
Is you cryptography military grade?
Military grade cryptography is widely used as a marketing resource. Security forces would not release their technologies fro civilian use.
We assure you that SECVOICE 3G uses the highest standard cryptography known to the market.
